The Moisture Load Is The Problem
A barn full of animals is a continuous source of warm, wet air.
That air meets cold roof steel and cold walls. Water forms, then drips onto bedding, feed and stock below.
Wet bedding costs money and affects animal health. Persistent condensation corrodes fasteners, cladding and structure, which shortens the life of the building itself.
Ventilation alone does not fix it, because the cold surfaces are still there.
What Closed-Cell Foam Changes
Sprayed to the underside of the roof deck and to the walls, closed-cell foam holds those interior surfaces above dew point.
Bonded directly to the substrate, there is no cavity behind it where moist air can reach cold steel.
Being a vapour barrier at sufficient thickness, it also stops moisture driving into the assembly rather than just insulating against temperature.
The result is a building whose interior surfaces stay dry, which is the point.
Pests, Birds And Longevity
Blanket and batt systems in livestock buildings have a predictable failure pattern. Birds get behind them, vermin nest in them, and they sag and tear.
Once that starts, the insulation stops working and becomes a hygiene problem of its own.
Foam is continuous and adhered. There is no cavity to get behind and nothing to pull down.
It also seals the small gaps around penetrations and at junctions that let pests in to begin with.
Wash-Down And Hygiene Areas
Where a building gets washed down, the detailing matters more than the product.
Foam has to be carried properly into junctions and around penetrations rather than stopping short and leaving an edge for water to get behind.
The covering requirement still applies, and in a wash-down area the covering has to suit the cleaning regime as well as the fire code.

Planning Around Stock
Animals must be out of the building during spraying and for the re-entry period afterward. There is no version of this job where they stay in.
That is the hardest part to arrange on a working operation, so it is the first thing we plan, not the last.
