Greenhouse and Growing Facility Insulation

Greenhouse And Growing Facility Insulation In Chatham, Ontario

Chatham-Kent holds more than 20 million square feet of greenhouse, the second largest concentration in Ontario. Growing facilities are a specialist insulation job and we treat them as one.

The glazing stays clear. Everything else — headhouse, north wall, gable ends, corridors, mechanical rooms, packing areas — is where energy is lost continuously.

Greenhouse and Growing Facility Insulation details

What Actually Gets Insulated

The headhouse is usually the single biggest opportunity, and it is often barely insulated at all.

The north wall and gable ends lose heat steadily too, since there is no light benefit to justify glazing there.

Service corridors and connecting structures between ranges also need attention.

Boiler rooms, mechanical rooms and pump rooms need it too, both to hold heat where it is wanted and to keep it out of where it is not.

Packing, grading and shipping areas often need to run at a different temperature from the growing space entirely.

Why Humidity Rules The Product Choice

A growing facility runs at humidity levels almost nothing else does, and it runs there constantly.

Any insulation that is not a vapor barrier lets that moisture through to the structure behind it. In a steel-framed building that means corrosion. In a timber one it means rot.

Open-cell spray foam is not a vapor barrier, so it has no place in a growing facility.

Closed-cell handles the insulation and the vapor control in a single product, bonded tight to the substrate with no cavity for moisture to collect in.

The Energy Argument

Heat loss through an uninsulated headhouse or north wall is not seasonal. It runs every hour the facility is heated, right through the growing season.

That cost sits directly against your energy cost per square foot of production, which is one of the numbers that decides whether a crop pencils out.

Sealing the non-glazed envelope is usually the cheapest available reduction in that number, because you are not touching anything that affects light.

We will work out the areas with you and be straight about what is worth doing and what is not.

Working Around Growing Schedules

Nobody wants a spray rig running beside a crop at the wrong moment.

We plan around your calendar: between crops, during turnaround, or zone by zone while the rest of the facility keeps running.

Ventilation and re-entry are handled the same way as any other job, but with more care about what is growing next door. We will talk through containment before we start.

Nights and weekends work for us too, if that is what fits your schedule.

Book A Greenhouse Assessment

We walk the facility, identify the areas worth sealing, and give you a fixed written price with a phased schedule.

What We Install

Other Buildings We Insulate

Chatham Spray Foam Insulation works on farm, commercial and residential buildings throughout Chatham-Kent.

Open-Cell Spray Foam

Open-cell is the lighter, softer, cheaper spray foam insulation. It expands much further than closed-cell, seals air just as effectively, and costs roughly half as much per board foot.
