About Chatham Spray Foam Insulation

Built Around Farm And Commercial Buildings

Chatham Spray Foam Insulation works across Chatham-Kent, mostly on agricultural and commercial buildings. Barns, greenhouses, machine shops, livestock housing, cold storage and packing facilities, with residential work alongside it.

That is a deliberate choice. Most insulation companies build around houses and treat a barn as an oversized one. The buildings here are not houses, and the problems in them are not house problems.

About Chatham Spray Foam Insulation

Why The Focus

Chatham-Kent has more than 2,400 farms, over 630,000 acres of farmland, and more than 20 million square feet of greenhouse. Agriculture and agri-food drive the municipality.

That means the buildings that need insulating most are steel-clad, high-volume, humid, and in constant use. The failure that brings people to us is water dripping off a roof deck, not a draughty living room.

Working on those buildings every week teaches you things you do not learn from attics: how purlin spacing affects coverage, how to bring an unheated barn up to substrate temperature in February, how to phase a job so a packing line keeps running, and how to plan a spray around livestock.

Certification, And Why It Matters Here

We are certified installers and we work to CAN/ULC S705.2. We will show you the certification rather than just claiming it.

Ontario requires trained, certified installers for spray foam. There is a reason. The material is mixed at the gun in a precise ratio, and getting it wrong produces foam that never cures, never bonds and never stops smelling.

A large share of our work is removing somebody else's failed foam. Almost all of it was off-ratio, sprayed too cold, or applied to a surface it could not bond to.

Certification is not paperwork. It is the difference between a building that is sealed and a building that has to be stripped and done again.

How We Quote

We come and walk the building. There is no useful way to price a barn, a shop or a greenhouse from a phone call.

We look at the structure, the existing moisture pattern, how the building is used and heated, and what has to keep running while we work.

We measure substrate temperature and check for existing water problems, because both change the job.

Then you get a written specification: product, thickness, the R-value that thickness delivers, how the foam gets covered to satisfy the code, the re-entry period, and a schedule. One fixed price, and nothing added afterwards.

What We Will Tell You Not To Do

We turn work down, and it is cheaper than doing it badly.

If there is an active leak, that gets fixed before anything is sprayed. Foam over a leak conceals it and makes it worse.

If a roof is near the end of its life, spraying the deck now complicates replacing it. Sometimes the right order is roof first.

If open-cell is being quoted cheaply for a barn roof or a crawl space, we will explain why it is the wrong product rather than matching the price.

And if the building does not need what you are asking for, we will say so.

How We Work On A Live Operation

Almost nothing we spray can be emptied completely, so protection and phasing are planned before we arrive.

Livestock and people must be out during spraying and through the re-entry period. On a working farm that is the hardest thing to arrange, so we start there rather than leaving it until the end.

We work around harvest, planting, growing schedules and delivery windows. Tell us the weeks that are impossible and we plan around them.
